ual Discrimination?

I recent interviewed for a internship at my school. I asked the recruiter to reconsider me a position, this is what he told me after I e-mailed him "I appreciate your strong interest in the program, unfortunately, we have only three spots to offer. What I can say is that you were definitely an impressive candidate (our favorite male), so I encourage you to come back to PLS 21 if in fact you do enroll in another quarter. Talk to you later." To me he implied that because I'm a guy that made me less qualified for the internship. Would this be a case of ual discrimination?
